Kate Fowler, OTD, OTR/L

Occupational Therapist

Kate Fowler is an occupational therapist based in the Waldorf area who specializes in treatment and rehabilitation of conditions related to the shoulder, elbow, and hand. She currently works as part of the team at The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics (CAO). Kate is originally from Virginia Beach, VA and settled in Waldorf after graduating from school. Kate has a passion for truly getting to know her patients and helping them return to what is most meaningful to them.

Education

Kate graduated from Virginia Tech with her undergraduate degree before continuing her education at Old Dominion University, where she earned her Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) degree. Throughout her doctoral education, she developed a strong interest in orthopedic care and hand therapy and pursued clinical experiences that allowed her to develop her skills in upper-extremity rehabilitation.

Experience

Kate has completed multiple internships as part of graduate school in outpatient orthopedics and outpatient pediatrics in Virginia Beach. She took a particular interest in orthopedics conditions of the shoulder, elbow, and hand during fieldwork and now that is her primary focus. Kate enjoys following her patients through the rehabilitation process and supporting them as they heal and get back to their life pre-injury. Kate has also worked with neurological populations which have shaped her ability to consider each client and the many different factors that can influence participation in everyday life.

Philosophy

Kate enjoys getting to know her clients and what activities mean the most to them. She enjoys targeting meaningful tasks in therapy and helping them understand their recovery. Kate enjoys collaborating with her patients, physicians, therapists, and other members of the healthcare team to best help each patient work toward their goals.  Kate strives to create a comfortable environment where patients can feel heard and supported throughout the rehabilitation process.

Personal

In her free time, Kate enjoys taking trips to Virginia Beach to visit the beach and hangout with friends and family. She loves to read, run, and relax. Although she isn’t much good, Kate enjoys experimenting with new foods to cook and bake.
